Dell outlines a process to reset the Real Time Clock (RTC) but I can't seem to get it to take. I've done a couple troubleshooting steps. I can get the machine to do this start-to-shut-down sequence on either battery power or with AC power only (battery unplugged from MB).
I replaced the thermal place a second time as part of this process. I took the machine completely apart the next day using Dell's support manual and put it back together. I hit the power button, power button LED and front indicator LED both come on solid white, fans come on pretty close to full tilt, I don't get any sort of display, laptop stay powered on with fans going for about a minute, then shuts off. After putting the machine back together, I could not get to the Dell splash screen. I then took it a step farther and attempted a battery replacement and thermal paste re-application over this past weekend. I then used the laptop as a stationary work-from-home machine for a few weeks. I completed a RAM upgrad and a HDD to SSD upgrade that both went well. It is a Dell Inspiwith an Intel 7th gen i5, dual-core CPU. I have an older decommissioned work laptop that I have been working on refurbishing.
